From the Pitch to the Field:  A Cricket Journey

Our history

Cricketklubben Soranerne has deep roots in the history and tradition of the sport of cricket from Sorø Akademi Skole in the city of Sorø. The first cricket match in Denmark was played on 7 October 1866 at the school. The school is the only high school in the Denmark with its own outdoor cricket pitch and cricket facilities. Over the years, the school fostered some of Denmark’s best cricketers.

Over time, Sorø Akademi has been the name of various institutions connected to Sorø Kloster’s former buildings. The monastery was taken over by the Crown in 1580 and was later used as an educational institution and school for noble and non-noble pupils in 1586. Christian IV also established a knight’s academy on the site in 1623, but it was closed in 1798. In 1826 it was restored again by Frederik VI and lasted as a royal institution until 1849, when it passed into private ownership.

The school’s cricket program is focused on providing a general introduction to the noble art of the game of cricket, training in bowling, batting, catching technique, as well as the facets and strategy of the fielding game. Cricket is a sport for those who value team play both as a team sport and individual skills. Cricketklubben Soranerne is proud of its history and association with Sorø Akademi and is part of the long tradition of the sport of cricket at the school.”

About our logo

The Cricketklubben Soranerne logo was designed by Katrine Meyer, a talented designer and former student of Sorø Academy. Katrine drew inspiration from the Sorø Academy logo to create a unique design that would represent the history of the cricket club.

The logo is designed in the Sorø Akademi well-known colors of red and yellow, with two ribbons in the same colors that are used for the school’s proms.

Katrine’s close friendship with the club’s chairman, Peter, gave her an in-depth understanding of the Club’s values and history. Her design captures the essence of Cricketklubben Soranerne, and its close relationship with Sorø Academy. We are incredibly proud of our logo and its representation of the rich history and traditions of our Club.
