"TEAMWORK IS THE KEYWORD"
vs Aarhus :
Soranerne 1 kicked off their division 2 season with 2 away wins. The season started with us travelling to Aaruhus and Aalborg for 2 back to back games. The first game was against Aarhus which was the easier of the two games, but then the pitch posed a serious threat and what looked like a straight forward game became very tricky at one point. After winning the toss, we elected to field and began the bowling with discipline. Rahul provided us with the first break through and then also the second one. Aarhus never looked like they would make a big score and kept loosing wickets and regular intervals. All the bowling changes reaped in rewards with all bowlers chipping in with wickets. The highlight of the first innings was of course Ankit as he was a part of 5 dismissls by taking 5 wonderful catches to send their batsman packing. Few of the catches were particularly pleasing to the eyes as they were smart and at a very crucial point in the game.
Eventually Aarhus were bundled out for 121 and what appeared to be a straight forward chase ended up a real tricky one. Our openers went in with positive intent and began the innings, having not played on such a spongy wicket ever it became evident very early that its not going to be an easy chase. At 20/4 it looked an uphill task when the captain leading from the front along with Vinod stitched together a winning partnership. The pair contniued to play sensibly punishing the loose balls and defending the good ones. Both batsman were set and were seeing the ball well, so Vinod a good hitter he is went for a big one, but then little did he realise that the pitch still was a tough one with some balls stopping and some skidding. He skied a ball and was out. At 69 for 4 the vice captain joined the captain in the middle and both put their head down and scored runs at ease.
Once shankar was set, he switched gears and went for some huge sixes. With less than 10 needed to victory and trying to finish with a few big hits the captain perished. But the vice captain did the job in Dhoni esque style by hitting the winning runs with a huge six- TAKE THAT!
vs Aalborg :
Immediately the following morning we had to face a much tougher opponent in Aalborg. The team reached the ground and were naturally a little tired after a challenging game the previous day. However that did not hinder the spirit or the energy of the team. We won the toss again and inserted the opponent to bat, it was a damp field and we took complete advantage of the conditions. Our opening pair of seamers did a terrific job by providing us with a break through early in the innings. Ankit struck in his second over dismissing one of the opener. Rahul did join the party when he struck in his third over dismissing their most complete player plumb in front of the wicket. Our bowlers kept on the pressure and never allowed the opposition to get away. The bowling changes from the captain paid rich dividends as almost every change brought in a wicket. They were seriously under the pump when they were reduced to 60 for five and not much batting to come. We kept mounting the pressure as all the bowlers continued their disciplined bowling with amazing support from the fielders as there were some amazing catches taken in the field. The catch of the day went to Susheel as he took a tumbling catch of their set batsman off Ashu to begin their tail. Chakri also pulled in a nice catch to dismiss their hitter but Susheel's catch looked terrific on the eyes and walked away with the catch of the match. With continued discipline from all the bowlers we were able to wrap up the innings and Aalborg were bowled out for 131 in 37 overs.
We began our batting innings wiht our openers in prime hitting form and taking on the bowling right from the outset. Both chakri and Naveen attacked their bowling and never allowed the bowlers to settle down. Chakri broke the shakles when he pulled their prime acer to a boundary and Naveen followed the attack hitting a six and a four in the next over. We were cruising at 45 for no loss at the end of 9 overs when Chakri got unlucky as the bowl ricocheted off his helmet handing over an easy catch to their keeper. Both Ashu and Naveen continued collecting runs and defending when required when suddently Naveen and Ashu were dismissed of consecutive overs. What looked like an easy chase up until now, the middle order collapse made the chase tricky again. But with Kaushal holding one end and Shankar playing a sensible game together they added another 30 runs when Shankar was adjudged caught behind. With another 20 odd runs required the next batsman didn't last long as Vikram failed to contribute and was out wihtout adding much. The captain walked in to join Kaushal in the centre, with not in best shape both Pankaj and Kaushal added few more runs. With 10 needed, pankaj went on for glory instead of getting the job done and was caught out. Rahul walked in and joined Kaushal still holding one end. The pair finally did what was required and got the job done. Kaushal remained unbeaten on 35.
All in all it was a good outing and a good beginning to the season as we won both our away games. Cheers and keep the good work coming in!
